Mitochondria

The motochondria are organelles that release energy from stored food particles. They use energy from food to make high-energy compounds that the cell can use to power growth, development, and movement. Like chloroplasts, mitochondria are enclosed by two envelope membranes, an outer membrane and an inner membrane, the latter of which is folded.
