Arrowwood Viburnum
The Arrowwood viburnum (Viburnum dentatum) is a dense, round headed large shrub. It has flat clusters of white flowers in mid May. The dark green, slightly glossy leaves are 2-3" wide and 3-4" long with sharply dentate leaf margins. Foliage turns yellow to red-orange to purple in autumn. Quality of fall color may vary from plant to plant. Fruits turn dark blue in September and are quite attractive. The fruits are well liked by birds. Plants maintain a dense full plant habit without much renewal pruning required. Can be used in the landscape in masses, hedges, or shrub borders. In this case, it is purifying rainwater before it runs off to the marshes.
